 Textile commodities hit by inflation
Inflation from the last few weeks remained on a soft note and the soaring prices of the commodities had a halt. Inflation is on a declining trend, continuously from the mid of September and during the third week of November it was recorded at 8.84% as compared to 8.9% in the preceding week. Global slowdown in the demand of the oil and other commodities has led to a fall in the crude oil prices which remained roaming around 60 per barrel during the last month thus easing the pressure on the benchmark index.
When compared from the same period of the previous year textile components of the WPI had an impact of inflation and their prices soared up during the period under review. Prices of jute and other textiles had the maximum inflationary pressure, as they have increased by 15.49%, followed by cotton textiles with an increase of 10.18% in their prices. Woolen textiles, and other miscellaneous textiles and cotton knitted garments became dearer by 5.44%, 4.75% and 3.43% respectively whereas the manmade textiles had the minimum impact on the prices and witnessed an increase of 2.23% only.
When compared on weekly basis prices of all the commodities except jute and other textiles and cotton textiles have declined from previous week, indicating towards the softening inflation.
