Inflation rises to 1.34% in Oct’09
As per the decision of Cabinet Committee of Economics Affairs (CCEA), the weekly release of Wholesale Price Index will henceforth cover only the Primary Articles and commodities in the broad group “Fuel, Power, Light and Lubricants” and Monthly release will cover WPI for all the commodities.

The WPI index for all commodities stood at 242.20 with an increase of 1.34 per cent on annual basis for the month of October 2009. The inflation recorded for the textile commodities under review is given in the table below.

Cotton textile price indices stood at 178.80 from 169.50 in the same month of previous year and witnessed an increase of 5.49 per cent. Jute and other textile price indices saw a growth of 24.68 per cent and stood at 292.50. Other miscellaneous textiles and cotton knitted garments saw an increase of 2.24 per cent and 4.00 per cent from the same month of previous year.

Manmade textile and woolen textile price indices are the two commodities which have been witnessing decline since last five months on annual basis.
